Additional Event Information

Join BHS Dorset for an evening talk by Antonia Milner-Matthews of Summerleaze Vets on Contagious Equine Diseases. Strangles is one of the most common diseases found in horses both in the UK and worldwide. It can affect horses of any age, breed or gender, is feared by horse owners and can have wide ranging economic impact on equestrian individuals and businesses. To support Strangles Awareness Week (6-12 May), BHS Dorset invites you to this FREE EVENT to find out more about the disease, what causes it, the signs to look out for and how to deal with it. Equine Herpes Virus (EHA) can cause respiratory disease (especially in young horses) and neurological disease in horses of any age, sex and breed, and pregnant mares to abort. Young foals are also at risk and can die from the infection. Equine influenza, also referred to as equine flu, is a highly contagious viral respiratory disease. The disease is present (endemic) in the UK, so its important to be aware of the signs and how to reduce the risk of the disease spreading In order to know numbers attending you must book in advance. The event is free but we are inviting donations to the BHS Second Chance Campaign which rehomes horses who have not had a great start in life with BHS Approved Centres who can offer them the care, knowledge and training that enables them to have a second chance at a good life. Please select the ticket that offers the support you would like to give. With grateful thanks to Summerleaze Vets, Axminster for supporting this event.
